EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY MATRICULATES 7000 STUDENTS INTO DARKNESS
We want to stop paying N50 everyday just to charge. N50 everyday for 7 days is N350 per week, N10,850 per month and N86,800 for a session!!! Almost equivalent to my school fees. That's unbelievably outrageous, totally unfair to us and our parents.
Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, the land of honour, matriculated yet about 7000 student on Friday 10th of May 2017 into darkness and black out.
The school environs has been in black out since October 2014. A 400l student of Philosophy said it started October 2014 during his pre-degree days, while a Linguistics graduate said there was power supply twice in January 2015.
Eksuites have been in black out for nothing less than four years and it has only contributed negatively to the educational well being of STUDENTS.
To begin with, I want to ask the following questions from the school management -
How are students expected to study in an inconducive environment of learning?
How do they read without availability of power supply ?
It is right that we are in the 21st century and you definitely don't expect us to make do with lanterns or candles for study purpose... because they are very risky and detrimental to our health.
How do they charge our lamps without power supply?
How do they use our phones with no power supply?
How do they even make a better use of the so called smart school CUM SCAM SCHOOL! without power?
Virtually all students on campus uses a smart phone. For this reason, ninety nine percent (99%) of school updates are posted online ranging from lecture updates, examination updates and even result checking on the dysfunctional portal.
Let's take a case study of a 300level student of the physics department, who during his 200l second semester examination was supposed to write a paper by 11:30am but the paper was rescheduled to 8:30am due to a clash. But his phone was down as a result of battery exhaustion and he wasn't aware the exam had been rescheduled only for him to get to school around 11am to see his classmates emerging from the examination hall and hence, a 3 units course was automatically carried over due to lack of power.
A lot of other scenarios like that have occured but silence has been killing us slowly.. or rather I would say! EKSUITES ARE SUFFERING AND SMILING.
FURTHERMORE, the bourgeoisie class of Eksuites can afford to buy power generator while the proletariats like us have to endure the outrageous noise and flame some of the generators emit. Particularly, during exams period, we can't even read in the hostels we paid for, reason being that the generators make so much noise that we can't assimilate when we read.
In Conclusion, Eksuites are subjected to a modern form of slavery because the school management does not believe in democracy, our voice is never heard, they act according to their own will without putting us into consideration and never ready to proffer solution to our problems. We have friends scattered around Nigeria state universities and we know how it works with them. I hereby plead on behalf of Eksuites that the school Authorities should please try their possible best to take us out of the dark pit because it is frustrating and it's making our stay on campus unremarkable, and bring us into limelight as soon as possible.

I know 95% of Eksu' top officials are parents and were once students, I therefore beseech you to have mercy on us please!. we beg of you.. I strongly believe a change will be made when this write up gets to the Authorities because I believe in the power of the PEN..
God bless Nigeria
God bless Ekiti State
God bless Ekiti State University
