YABATECH STUDENTS' CONGRESS

MOTTO: FOR THE UNION MAKES US STRONGER

PMB 2011 YABA LAGOS

RESOLUTIONS OF THE CONGRESS HELD AT ENVIRONMENTAL QUADRANGLE, SCHOOL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE ON MONDAY 14TH OF MAY 2018.

THE RESOLUTIONS UNANIMOUSLY AGREED UPON BY THE MASS OF STUDENTS AT THE CONGRESS ARE HEREBY ARTICULATED AND SERVED IN THIS NOTICE OF DEMAND

We, the undersigned,  a conscious mass of Yabatech students organized under a Congress hereby make the following demands centered on and around the grey areas of THE SECURITY SITUATION ON CAMPUS, WELFARE CONDITIONS OF THE STUDENT POPULACE AND THE REINSTATEMENT OF CONTROVERSIALLY PROSCRIBED YABATECH STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT

We demand forthwith that;

1. The YABATECH STUDENTS' CONGRESS be granted unreserved rights to fair hearing at all points of contact with organs of the College Management. This is so because the Congress remains the highest decision making body vested with the responsibility of engaging in dialogue with appropriate quarters of the College leadership on behalf of all bona fide students' of Yaba College of Technology.

2. That the security apparatus of the College be beefed up to adequately combat with and nip in the bud the rising tide of cultism dominating our campus in recent times

3. That there be massive renovations of structures supporting our academic survival on this campus. This structures include but not limited to lecture halls, student walk ways, dormitories and halls of residence etc. Where possible, considering the increase in the number of students admitted, adequate provisions should be made to address the glaring infrastructural deficit

4. That, as a matter of exigency that the College Management embark on a thorough restructuring of our campus road networks which are a eye sore whenever there is heavy downpour.

5. That hostel allottees be granted unrestricted access to prepare their meals each according to his means of survival. This should so, as a result of the pocket tearing increase in price of food items, absence of consumer protection to ascertain that our edibles are fit for consumption as well as the sorry state of our economy where spending power is at a low ebb and parents are struggling with the harsh realities of funding the education of their wards

6. That expedite measures be set in motion to restore the Yaba College of Technology Students' Union Government in accordance with Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and all relevant laws of the United Nations Charter on Human Rights which exclusively grants liberty and freedom of association to group of persons who are bounded together by a common interest and must protect these interests by forming a Union.

7. That there be democratic running of the institution where students (by reinstatement of the Union) would have a say in the affairs of the College in matters that pertinently affects them.

8. We condemn the undue interference of members of staff of the College who are fighting tooth and nail to usurp the democratic rights of students to run their respective associations as they  deem it fit. This worrisome trend has resulted into wide scale victimization and threats of rustication to voices who are out to question the status quo in the interest of students at all times. The reinstatement of the Union remains the only solution to addressing this cancer

9. That the College Management lends its voice to the outcry for the upward funding of the nation's education sector to enable it cater for the institution's day to day needs

10. That the newly appointed leadership of the College embark on a familiarization exercise to meet with students and have an on-the-spot assessment of some concerns raised in this notice of demand.

We, members of the YABATECH STUDENTS' CONGRESS desires that this demands be met even as we urge all parties concerned to be proactive in the discharge of their duties for the benefit of all Yabatech students.

Please be assured of our persistent engagement in line with the protocols and grievance procedures laid down in the College Students' Handbook.
