THE STATE OF OUR(YABATECH) CAMPUS
Greetings to you from the throne of solidarity, I seize this medium to bring to your notice the challenges plaguing us as students of Yaba College of Technology.
With downright condemnation, the Dr. Mrs Kudirat-led administration has implemented a truck-load of anti-student policies which are rather obnoxious, outrageous, inglorious, fraudulent and in a manner that has flagrantly disregarded any acceptable form of democratic process.
This maladministration is clearly evident and visible to us as Students of the College in areas ranging from astronomical hike in fees for all obtainable payable, poor welfarism of Students and most importantly the suspension of our Students' Union on grounds that are logically unacceptable and are in violation of the fundamental rights of students to freedom of expression and association.
The management in other to achieve this inhumane policies, proscribed the S.U.G for an alleged inconclusive election conducted by staff of the college without a report from the electoral committee to affirm this claim.
After sending the union on a despotic sabbatical, the management cashed in on this lacuna to geometrically increase fees for every payable on campus. Students now have to pay heavily to obtain transcripts, acceptance fee is now twice the price, students are to pay X-ray and Medical Exam/Services fee separately amongst a host of all others. This is coming at a time when the economy is still struggling to find its bearing and citizens are exposed to series of harsh realities which are largely pecuniary in nature, at a time when there is massive retrenchment and downsizing of workforce in the private sector and a time when state governments have blatantly refused to pay above the #18,000minimum wage.
To put this in proper perspective, the hike include the following but are not limited to; an 100% increment in acceptance fee, 33% increment in school fee., as well as 317% increment in transcript fee. Other illegal levies are been collected under the guise of departmental and hostel charges. Just recently, hostel allottees had to cough out #700 each for undocumented reason. To further increase our woes and make life unbearable for us as students, the Dr. Mrs Kudirat-led management has clapped down on all forms of cooking in halls of residence. This is been done with no regard to the financial implications to be incurred by the students. This is also a move that is inconsiderate of the health risks posed to students, as there are no regulatory body in place that would certify every edible on campus fit for consumption.
At this point, we as students of YABATECH openly condemn all of these barbaric neo-liberal policies meted out on us by the Dr. Mrs Kudirat-led management of our great citadel of learning.
We forthwith, demand as follow;
1. IMMEDIATE REINSTATEMENT OF OUR STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT. OUR RIGHTS TO ASSOCIATE BASED ON OUR COMMON INTEREST IS SACROSANCT AND INDEPENDENT STUDENTS' UNION IS A RIGHT!
2. THE MANAGEMENT MUST AS A MATTER OF EXIGENCY, REMOVE THE 'NO COOKING' BAN PLACED ON ALL HALLS OF RESIDENCE. THE MASS OF STUDENTS CAN NO LONGER AFFORD TO BE EXPOSED TO THE RISK OF FOOD POISONING AS THERE IS NO CONSTITUTED REGULATORY BODY GUARDING THE PRODUCTION AND SALES OF EDIBLES ON CAMPUS. OUR CONSUMER RIGHTS' AS STUDENTS MUST BE PROTECTED.
3. THE REVERSAL OF ALL FORMS OF ILLEGAL AND DESPOTIC FEES ACROSS BOARD BACK TO STATUS QUO.
4. WE DEMAND THAT MULTIPLE JAMB REGULARIZATION FEE AND CHARGES AGAINST US BE OUTRIGHTLY SUSPENDED
ALUTA CONTINUA.......... VICTORIA ASCERTA

The college which is preparing to celebrate her 70th birthday seems not ready to take responsibility of their students.
