HND 2 Student, dead at Yabatech, allegedly, due to poor medical response from management (full story)
A final year, Higher National Diploma (HND) student of the department of Office Technical Management (OTM), Yaba College of Technology, was confirm dead, early hour of Wednesday, 10th February, 2015.
The deceased, Dazan Charity Oluwabukola, allegedly died due to poor medical response from a federal government hospital (name with-held) and that of Yabatech.
Oluwabukola was sick and taken to the school medical center where she was at first responded to with drips and tablets, then she was believed to have gotten better, on getting to her hostel it came back again, the she was taken back to the centre where they had to refer her to the federal hospital.
"Now it is expected at that stage that the school takes over the treatment by carrying her with the school ambulance to the federal hospital, so that she can get immediate attention".
On getting to the hospital, she was billed 35 thousand naira as medical bill before any attention will be given her at the federal hospital, this was around 2am on Wednesday.
"You know how risky Lagos is now! They had to come to the school around 2am to look for 35k, they got part of it, getting to the hospital, they still said they will do nothing unless it completes 35 thousand naira"
"Mind you, school contributed 10k as her fellowship gave out 20k
She was brought back to school around 4am where she was left at the sickbay".
She was brought back to school around 4am where she was left at the sickbay".
"She was saying, 'please don't let me die, please don't let me die' (in Yoruba language), but nothing was done"'.
She later died around 6 to 7 am.
Report which was confirmed from Dr Charles Oni, the Public Relation Officer of Yabatech, via TVC Lagos, says the school does not have driver, that's why she wasn't transported by the management to the federal hospital.
Question filling us is, who is to be blamed, the School Medical Centre or the Federal Government Hospital that refuse to treat her without payment.
Secondly, is a federal government hospital suppose to collect money from a federal government student before treatment / consideration ?
